Tropical hardwood lumber accounted for 53% of the total U.S. hardwood import market by value in 2020.

The U.S. spent $224 million on tropical hardwood lumber in 2020, versus $196 million for imported temperate species. This is despite a 34% decrease in the volume of tropical hardwood lumber imported.
